Summary:

Gisbertus Voetius (1589-1676) , the famous calvinistic leader of the 17th century and initiator of the University Utrecht had a rather negative view on Jews (at least as long as they did not convert). He sent his pupil Johannes Leusden (1624-1699) to Amsterdam to improve his Hebrew and to prepare for mission among the Jews. Although he remained reluctant about the Jewish faith, he became really interested, published about habits, and edited the first bible with both Jewish and Protestant recommendations: the famous Athias (accuratissima) bible.
